Older adults boost muscle mass after bariatric surgery

Key clinical point: Bariatric surgery was associated with increased muscle mass, as well as weight loss, in adults older than 65 years.

Major finding: The average muscle mass increased from 50% at baseline to 55% at 12 months after bariatric surgery in adults older than 65 years.

Study details: The data come from a review of 89 patients who underwent bariatric surgery.
