Sepsis readmissions risk linked to residence in a poor neighborhoods
Key clinical point: Living in a disadvantaged neighborhood is linked to greater risk of 30-day readmission following a sepsis hospitalization.
Major finding: The mean Area Deprivation Index for readmitted patients was 63 (scale 1-100), compared with 52 among patients not readmitted.
Study details: A retrospective cross-sectional study of 531 patients discharged from an urban hospital in Baltimore in 2017 for hospitalization because of sepsis.
Disclosures: The study did not note external funding. One coauthor, Suchi Saria, PhD, reported receiving honoraria and travel reimbursement from two dozen biotechnology companies for keynotes and advisory board service; she also holds equity in Patient Ping and Bayesian Health. The other authors reported no industry disclosures.
